Default Anybody build 361s?

I am curious why the 361 never seems to be mentioned as far as a buildup. They were fairly popular and plentiful in the early 60s, being the standard engine in some models, and optional in others. They were even offered with Ram Induction in the '60 Dart, although most RIs were 383s. Aren't they based on the 383 or did the 383 evolve from the 361?

The first B engines are the 350 and the 361. The 383 came later.
As far as seeing anyone build one, I do not see a reason why not but with the same config, but bigger bore, why bother. I also do not see them very often at all. Piston selection could be tuff.
Also, you could save weight by doing a "LA" 360 or stroking an "LA" engine.

Are many of the 383 parts useable on a 361? Also, I see the term "LA" engines fairly often, although I haven't ever read a definition. Instinct tells me an abbreviation for Los Angeles, as in Cleveland 351 Ford. On the other hand, I wasn't aware of any engine plant in California.

I have a mildly built 361 in my '66 Cornet 500. As noted in the other post, piston choice is the problem. Other than that, you can use all 383 parts.

The term LA is commonly referred to as "Late A". It's the wedge head version that replaced the poly head design of 1955. It first appeared as the 273 in 1964.

LA is the modified A engine, although the definition escapes me, I believe it is the 340 & 360, as the Raised Block (RB) is the modified big block. Anyone with a terminology clarification? My memory fails, my apologies.

"A" engines, 277 - 301 - 318 to '66
"LA" 273 - 318, 67 to present - 340, 360
"B" 350 - 361 - 383 - 400
RB Yes, there was a 383 RB , 413- 426 wedge not HEMI - 440

A ='s Chryslers (Then) new small block.
"LA" ='s there "Lighten" A engine. Not modified but all new casting and design.
"B" was there then new Big block engine.
RB was there Rasied Block engine. The deck height was increased because of this.
The HEMI was a RB design but not a wedge head layout.

Not throwing rocks Rumblefish but the cam is in the same location on B's and RB's since they use the same cam chain combo. Just for the HOI, you can use a RB crank in the 361 and come up with a long stroke 400 kinda like the long stroke 383.
