Default tire size suggestion for roadrunner

Hello I have a 68 RR coupe with a 383 4 speed ,I have the bias ply F70 redlines on 14 inch mag 500's. I want to go with perhaps a wider tire ( 60 series) radial for a better ride, better appearance, and handling. Any recomendations for a bolder tire size that will fit on the factory 14 inch mag 500 rim? I see the 235-60-14 is popular at the cruise nights I go to. Any help is appreciated

If those magnum rims measure 14 x 6" you could get a 235/60-14 to fit and it would look good. However, if the rim is 14 x 5.5" then I think you are stuck with the F70-14's. The red stripe versions look good but are very expensive today. The best rim for a 225/60-14 or 235/60-14 is a 14 x 7"

235 tire on a 6" rim? That is not recommended. They belong on 6.5"-8.5" wheels. Check Goodrich's specs: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=yes&tab=Specs My wheel of choice for any 235 tire would be 8" IMHO.

Default 235/60-14 on 14 x 6" rim

While that's true, a 235/60-14 or 235/60-15 will work on a 6" rim. For example we use 255/60-15's on 15 x 7" rims on our '76 and '78 Pontiac Firebird TA's with the factory aluminum wheels. An 8" rim is recommended. You can see it's a tight fit from the bulge of the tire sidewall, but it does work. Just not optimum for handling, braking or tire wear. Now when you move to 17 or 18" wheel tires, the rim selection is much more critical as to rim width,

Yeah I could force-fit a 235 onto a 5" wide wheel too. Anything can be done. But should it be?
