Default Liquid Rust Dissolver

The East wood Company and others such as Evaporust claim that their products are enviro-friendly and contain no toxic materials etc. and they are not harmfull to rubber, etc.! I have used the process of hooking up a battery charger and using washing soda in a tub of water and then charging the piece of metal to remove the rust and it does work! . My question is,...does anyone have a formula that works such as what Eastwood and other companys make? I'm wondering if it is just a larger concentration of soda wash or simmilar ingredients? Here in the North we get plenty of rust and i would like to make a large vat to put the liquid rust disolver in,but at $20-$25 gal. from eastwood it is not cost worthy!

The eastwood product leaves a zinc coating to protect from future corrosion. It is expensive but a little goes a long way. I think its worth the cost but will know more in 20 years.

Take the original idea and run with it. Once it is done, then you use zinc blocks, in place of the rebar. That will give the same zinc coating that eastwood is.

Anyone ever use proform rust convertor? I been using the stuff and it keeps rusting my metal. The directions say to put 3-4 coats on wait 6 hours and its good. It looks good when it goes on. The metal goes bronze in colour. I let it dry 6-8 hours and it's rusty again. What's up with that?

To dissolve the exterior rust on my Barracuda exhaust manifolds and free up the heat riser valve, I used three gallons of vinegar in a big plastic Christmas wrap storage box. The manifolds soaked for three or four weeks, dissolved enough of the rust where I could free up the valve! The vinegar kinda came to the point where it was neutralized and I had to replenish it. The manifolds turned out great and awaiting new paint.
