Default 1966 model 440 engine inquiry\

In 1966 i was workiing in hazard kentucky, i went to the local dodge dealer to shop for a tradein for my 1963 dodge dart. The dealer showed me a plain white dodge model 440, four door small hubcaps, no trim.bench seats, i asked why in the world would i want that car. he told me to look again, there what looked like 3inch exhaust pipes, on the floor coming up to the front of the bench seat was fourspeed shifter,
when he opened the hood there was a two cross rammed four barrels,
he said it was a 426 hemi;.
i cant find that hemi ever cam with crossed rams in 1966, but i cant find that the 440c.i.d. was in the 440any ideas, could that have been a left racing hemi that the 65 had??? any idea any one. i would think it was being sold as a boot leggers car

any help thanks

Welcome to the board.

You're right, there was no crossram Hemi offered from the factory in '66, had to be done after delivery. The 426 Hemi was, however, an option on the Coronet 440 so it could have been an original Hemi car and somebody added the crossram.

Since the Coronet 440 is a B body, the 440 engine wouldn't have been available in it in '66, only the C and Y body cars got the 440 in its first year.

Biggrin

The Coronet 440 was a body trim level and had nothing to do with the engine displacement. The next model up was the Coronet 500.
