Default New rod!

In progress now.
I bought this little baby more than a year ago

49 fargo (dodge export line) B1B model

I've finally started to work on it.

First step was to remove the solid front axle. and install this little beauty

It's just mocked up rihgt now, with wood blocks

In doing so, I have also moved the front axle forward from it's stock location. about 5". This should improve traction and handling.

The Fenders are from a heavy truck. This still gives me tire clearance, and a bit of a rat rod look

It's going to get a 400 B motor that I've had for a few years. makes around 330hp

Default trucks

Seem to be the rage in resto lately. You have what I always thought was a really good looking model.
That front suspension is beautiful. The rear axle looks like an 8 3/4 from an "E" body.
Are you going to straighten the grille chrome yourself? I have a good source for that and the polishing, if you need one.
Good luck, and keep us up to date on the progress.

That's no E body axle. Just saw the nuts on the axle end. What's it from?

I haven't swapped the diff out yet.

It has the stocker which I believe is a removable carrier 8.25. Much like an early 8.75.

In any case, I have a C body 8 3/4 that should fit right in. I'll have to move the pearches of course.

As for the stuff Im doing myself, likely everything. I want to keep it on the cheap...LOL.

The guy who sold it to me was a little vague,
but I'm pretty sure it's an 06 crown victoria front end. There are a lot of hp brake parts available for these, since they are commonly used for cop cars.

You wouldn't happen to know the front track on that would you? I'm wondering if I could swap something like that into my Volare.

Yeah, that's a Crown Vickie alright..

That's an interesting suggestion.

In the past volare clips have been used in rods. Now to use a crown vic clip in volare would really seem to be moving up.

I'm going to take some measurements.
Cheers

OK

some dimensions....

-Outside to outside of the tires is 6 ft. Notice in the pics, that the wheels are offset almost entirely inward. This offset is present on newer mustang wheels too, so there are wheel options with this offset.

-Also note that 16" wheels are required for this setup. 15's will hit the brakes.

-between the frame rails a max width of 36" seems to fit in there. Maybe 1/4" more in a pinch. My fargo frame is a little narrower at 32" (2" of 2x4 taking it up right now). Will use channel to get it right

-The height of the mounting is 6". ( frame height) My frame is shorter than this, and angled a bit. The channel I will be using is 6" so that will fix that up.

Hope this is of some help

Just came back in from my cold, cold garage. I've got a quick and dirty measurement.

Front suspension - Outside of stock 14" tire to tire: 67"

Eyeball measurement- Outside to outside of frame rail: 34" (Engine is still in the car so that's as much as I can get.)

Obviously, the Crown Vic suspension is wider... but... not by much. I'm still thinkin'...
