Default la360 flywheel application

hi, my son and I are swapping out his 318/727 combo fron his sb step 2wd truck to a a833/360la engine, but we are in need of some help with the flywheel, we have two 14" flywheels, one of which was supposed to be from a 360, and the other we are not sure, we also have a 13" from a 69 cuda/273cu, I understand the 360cu uses a externally ballanced flywheel, one of the 14" we have has two holes drilled on the engine side outer edge that are side by side, lets say at the 12:00 oclock position and then one more drilled at roughly the 8:00 oclock position, is this the method of ballance?, would it work for us?, also will the 14" diameter fit in the a833 bell housing?, appreciate any help hear, if the ones we have wont work is there a part# for an aftermarket one that would?

another thought...the 14" drilled flywheel we have has 1 143 tooth flywheel, I believe the 318 one has 130 the 360's usually came with "rock crusher" trannys and different bell housing, we are using the a833 with the smaller bellhousing, will this also cause any issues?

The externally balanced 360 flywheel usually has three large diameter holes shallow drilled closer to center, the smaller hales are for mass balancing. In the pic below the 360 LA flywhel is on the right.

The 130 tooth and 143 tooth each have their own dedicated bellhousings, they won't work in the wrong bellhousing.

ok thanks for clearing that up, neither one of the larger flywheels we have look like that and as you stated the larger flywheel/bell housing set up only works on the larger tranny, what we need is a 130 tooth 360 flywheel which Mopar performance sells but expensive, what do you think of the adapter that "KMJ" sells, part# qt1 rm-531, it is specificly for the 360 la engine to use with a reg 318 flywheel to ballance it

If you have a neutral-balanced flywheel it's fairly easy to modify it to external balance for the 360LA, see the pic below.

ok, I guess any good local machine shop could perform this procedure for a moderate cost?, certainally it would be cheaper than a new one, I would also assume that any la 318/340 flywheel would be neutral ballanced?, thanks for the drawing

Your problem is going to be to find a machine shop that has the right size drill...

And the drill has to be 'as new' to get the right angle on the tip so the bottom of the holes are cut exactly as they need to be.

And then (this is really sad, but so true...) the machinist has to believe that he can't take shortcuts and just get it 'near enough'.

Why not just use a B&M balanced flex plate between the crank and flywheel?

actually the 10236 says it fits the 727 and the 10239 says it fits the 904, which would you use for the std and is there enough room or maybe I have the wrong numbers altogether?

sorry, just noticed the balance plate you referred to.It should work, didn't know thtat such even existed for mopars. We have used the B&M 904 flex plate in dyno when running a stock balance 360.

Check out the balance plate that is made by Qwik Time (Mr Gasket company) possibly used between flywheel and crank
