I also find it impossible to seal chrome. But you might, if you really have to have chrome, try grinding off the chrome on the sealing surface and on the surface where the hose mates. Make sure surfaces are true and use any good gasket sealer.

The only way I found to fix this problem once and for all was to buy a billet housing with an o-ring seal. It looks great and actually works! http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bs...iew/make/dodge

Are you using a stamped steel housing? I've had problems getting stamped ones to seal too.

There are chrome cast housings that are easier to get to seal. If the intake surface is flat and the housing surface is flat it will seal.

Napa has a chrome cast housing PN 7354994

The chrome isn't the problem. The material these cast ones are made out of is soft, and too thin. Thus they warp "up" in the center away from the two bolts. The material is crap, and corrodes badly adding to the sealing problems.

The steel ones that the factory used are better, but only seem to work well once or twice. After that they are also warped or corroded too bad to seal.

Like I said, I've been thru this crap too many times to count. Get a billet one with an o-ring, and get rid of the problem.

Most these seem to be cheap pot metal, but, then, many factory ones are alloy, too. Maybe this stuff is ..........crappier?

I could not believe it when I actually found a CAST IRON housing in stock at O'Reallys, and even more astounding, a counterperson who was able to find it.

The problem I was chasing was an Edelbrock witih the dual large / small T stat bolt pattern had a glitch, and was looking to solve that.

I've had chrome ones that are absolutely straight when checked with a precision straight edge that leak, ditto for ones with O rings. My solution....RTV.

I bought a o ring housing tried it it didn't work leaked the o ring did not match good on my edelbrock intake. My intake has 4 holes not sure why. Or what other types of housings fit that intake. Now going back to crappy chrome housing going to try permatex thermostat sealer on the gasket and see what happens. This is what my intake thermostat housing looks like. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...-P%3B450%3B450

Are you sure it's leaking at the t stat housing? Could the leak be at the bypass hose? Is the radiator hose new? I don't think the extra 2 holes are the problem.
Is the surface on the manifold true? Are the bolt holes worn? Did you clean up the threads on the bolts or replace them?
Just remember these problems only happen to the good guys.

The reason for the 4 holes in the thermostat flange is the thermostat housings changed in 1979. Your intake will accommodate either thermostat housing.
