Default Help with Demon project

I have a 1971 Dodge Demon with an un-original Super 225 Slant 6 and have a problem. The gas in the car was really old and the inside of the fuel tank was a crustation of rusty goo that I tried to clean out to no avail. I had a resto shop try to clean it and they said the tank was a lost cause since it had to be cleaned before re-sealing it.

I searched around and the cheapest tank I could find locally was almost $400.00 and on the net I found one for $200.00. I happen to have a 12 gallon fuel cell with a 10PSI electric pump in it. I thought of mounting this in the trunk. The problem I have is this..................

The original tank has the main line from the sender and 4 lines on the left upper side. The carb has no return line that I can see whatsoever. How would I implement using this fuel cell in my Demon? Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated!

I'd suck it up and spend the cash on a new tank if I couldn't save the original, but thats just me.

The 4-vent tank will run you $291 from Year One.

Does a 79/79 Super 225 have a fuel return line? For some reason, mine does not.

Why would a carburated car have a return line?

That tank shouldn't have a return line, that should be the plumbing for the evap cannister.

If you run the cell and 10 psi pump, make sure you run a regulator set at about 4 psi.

If you have to have a return line, get a filter for an A/C car. They had a nipple for a return on them.

Take it to a place that does radiators and have them boil it out. It's not that hard to clean them out.

Default shake it

My Duster had the same gooey tank. I removed it, emptied out what I could, put some hot water in it, along with a couple handfulls of bolts and shook it around. I had to do this a few times, pouring out the sludgy, rusty gook and then putting clean water back in. When the water was clear coming back out, I made sure I got all the bolts out, and let it dry. Put it back in and filled her up and I've yet to have a problem. Just an idea if you want to try a home remedy. Good Luck

I tried cleaning it myself a few times, but could never get all the rust out. When I thought I had it clean, the next time I ran low on fuel, the filter plugged up with the same brown crap.

The tank has also been repaired once. Maybe I should just get a new one for it and forget the fuel cell idea.

Thanks all.

They were mainly used on A/C cars to prevent vapor lock.

That's a vapor return line. Not your typical return line found on FI or race cars.

Order a filter for a 6pak or hemi and it has a 3rd smaller nipple for a return line. I used one on my 70 383 Bee.

You do mean the one that comes straight off the fuel filter like Rug is referring too, right?
