Default Manifold heat valve spring repair

Is there a repair kit or homade way to replace the manifold heat valve "thermostatic coil spring". (got that name from the service manual)
It's the older style /6 manifold.....1964.
Can I do without? probally take longer to run right in winter?

You can run the car without it. I doubt you will notice much of a difference in the way it runs in the cold too.

Yep, I think the same here. Mine was stuck all winter until I finally put some wd-40 as a part of rebuilding the carb (checked all vaccuum hoses and lubricated all moving parts around it) that's when i discovered that this thing was suppossed to move. No big change though.
