BS! 68 225 tuning

Hi,

We just bought a 68 d100 with a 225 in it.
Does anyone know what the tuneup specifications are? Is there a website that has them?

thanks,
Wayne

Hi,

Thanks for info.

What does valve measurements mean when they are "hot"?

Do the valve adjustment when the engine is at normal operating temperature. Drive your car long enough to bring the whole engine (not just the coolant) to normal temp and do the job before it cools down. Don't burn your fingers!

Those are the specs to use, however experimenting with ignition timing even in a bone stock slant 6 can be very rewarding for no money spent and just a few minutes. Torque, horsepower & mileage increases can be found here, as well as jetting/fine tuning of an otherwise stock 1 or 2 bbl carb. My car ran much better after doing these very things, and this was also before any mods were made.

I've gotten noticably better perf. with 8 to 10 degrees initial timing(vacuum advance DCd while adjusting,of course)Shouldn't ping unless you have lotsa carbon buildup in the combustion chambers or vacuum leak(s) If the distributor has been converted to electronic trigger, the relucter to trigger wheel gap should be at most .018(Brass or other NON-magnetic feeler) little less is OK(strength of signal-wise)IF distributor bushings are OK;double check to make sure by spinning engine round &watching the the trigger wheel to reluctor (no wobble air gap should remain constant)
