Default 1964 Plymouth Valiant

We've had a 1964 Valiant sitting in the garage for a while now. My dad bought it in the mid 90's, and used it as a work car for a while. We're starting the process of looking it over, and deciding what to do with it. Right now it's got a slant six sitting in it. We're looking to get a bit more power in it, but we'd like to keep the slant six in it since it has the push button tranny, and I'm kind of fond of it. As a last resort, we have a 340 that was built for pro-street in the 80's.

Any suggestions for pulling more power out of a slant six, and sites for reference?

'64 Valiants are the best of the A-bodies.
But then, I'm biased!

There's a lot of good info at slantsix.org, but you might want to soft-pedal talk of a V8 swap over there.

You can get plenty of power out of a slant...

No need to worry about a V8 at all. Fewer moving parts = less power loss!

I'm for keeping the slant. The 225 in my Valiant has an Offy intake w/ dual Holley 1920 1bbl carbs, an Isky solid cam, Clifford headers & a pushbutton 904 trans w/ a Turbo Action shift kit & 2.76 highway flyer rear gears. Fun to drive, runs @ least as good as a stock 318, & still gets great mpg.
