Default 70 Duster/ slant six to a 360

Hello, I have a 70 duster with the original slant six 225 with a 3 speed, my question is, can I put a 360 in (obviously changing the K frame) and will it link up o.k to my 3 speed or do I need a new bell housing?

Yes, you can put the engine in without changing the "K frame" conversion mounts are available from Schumacher www.engine-swaps.com. You will need a small block bellhousing & a 360 flywheel. Note 360's are externally balanced so you will need one w/ the correct balancing.

There is also the possibility you have an A903 3-speed in that model, as far as I know anyway...

This would be a 'top loader' style of gearbox with a flat pressed steel cover on the top. If it has the top cover and there's a lump (a significant lump) in the front section of the cover, then it's an A745 and it will be okay with the V8.

But an A230 is a better thing, this is a side loading box with synchro on first gear and a bit more strength. Bellhousings interchange between these gearboxes, most later model 4-speed bellhousings also have the drillings to fit these 3-speeds.

Default Also check

That your cross link bar has a vee eight shape to clear the oil pan. It is also known as the drag link. It should look like a "c" shape. It connects the pitman arm to the idler arm.
This swap is a piece of cake. Be sure, also, to have the K frame welded up to strengthen it, and weld in some gussets on the lower control arms open lower section. Cut an access hole in them to get to the bump stops bolts.

I changed slnt6 to 340 and left the drag link with no problems, I believe thats only an issue with the early cars, pre 67'
