Default Problem Finding A Fuel Fump

The car's a 72 Plymouth Scamp but has a 71 slant six in it - which is the original motor. The car and motor have 56,000 original miles. The problem is my fuel pump in this thing is different than other 225 fuel pumps? I got another pump at the local auto parts here and the lever arm is different than mine and all the ones I found on the internet are different too. The auto parts store looked up my part # for my pump and they said it was discontinued?!? Can someone help me out with finding one and explain to me why my 225 has a different fuel pump than other 225s???? Here's a pic of the botton half of my fuel pump, note how different the lever arm is.

my 225 fuel pump

here's the other 225 pump

Different to what? Where's the comparison?

Did you perchance try the other one to see if it worked on your engine?

I have found 4 pumps on line that seem to have similar profiles, but the pump arm is a one piece stamping. His pic shows a pump with a composite arm that appears riveted. It could be a change in manufacturing technology and the new pump may work fine.

I tried putting in the new pump with the different lever arm and I couldn't get it to fit, didn't even seem like it was close to fitting and the last thing I wanted to do was force it.. Here's a pic of the one I tried, look how different the arm is.

What's the part number of that pump? The ones I see online have a different looking arm.

Napa's part number is M60577

Did you turn the motor over to get the pump drive lobe at its highest position? If the lobe is pointing straight at the pump lever the pump will be harder to install.

Thanks for the great advice, I didn't try that. I'm not too familiar with the slant six. I'm used to the 8 cylinders, where you push the rod up inside the motor and slide the fuel pump arm in real quick

Default electronic fuel pump

We had a similar problem on my 72 dodge dart. my mechanic suggested an universal electronic fuel pump, we left the old one in and connected the new one, attached it to the inside near the motor and it is working fine.
