Default Slant-six enthusiasts ...

I have a question for those of you in know about Slant-six's ... I have a '51 M37 that had a 230 Flat Head Six. When I bought it it had been replaced with a mid-sixties Poly 318 wide block that doesn't fit and is blocking the drive shaft for my PTO winch. I've found a 225 slant-six for almost nothing but I don't know if it's too long for the engine compartment. Do any of you know what the length from the back of the engine to the front of the waterpump is? Thanks in advance, Neil.

BTW, I'm just now starting this full resto and wanting the slant six so I have the extra HP to install power steering and more vacuum for power brakes for my daughter ... yep, you heard right my 16 year old daughter wants to help with the resto and then drive this to school when it's done.

Neil, Just saw the post. I have a 225 sitting in the corner of my shop. I will measure on Monday The 1st of April and post the size. You should have no problem with replacing the poly

You looking at 31 1/2 '' from bell housing block flange to the waterpump fan mounting flange.

The 230 is about 29¾", right?

I guess the 245 flathead would be 31" or very close to it.

That the slant is 31½" is a bit of a surprise, really, as it has the water pump offset to enable the overall length to be shorter.

The 245/265 Hemi 6, meanwhile, doesn't have the offset water pump and is has bigger bores (up to 3.91") and is 32½" from the bellhousing face to the water pump flange.
