Default Swapping /6 for a 383 or 440??

can it be done? i'd like to go this route for my '74 duster next summer when i'm at home to build it. i think that i could find a used 383 or 440 at carlisle w/a 727 and maybe an 8 3/4 rear w/3.55 or 3.91 gears. that would be the ideal setup for me. i want to go fast in the quarter mile and also have a nice looking show car when i'm totally finished. could anyone give me price info (approx) and could i do it all myself? thanks very much!!!

A big block is the way to go , I have built several for Duater and Dart pro street and race cars . The price would depend on how fast you want to go.There are a couple of companys out there that make motor mounts that alow you to bolt the big block into your 6 cyl. k- frame. Contact me if you need any more info.

well, ideally, i'd like to run a 12.0 in the quarter with a full interior and not be tubbed. i'd like it to be a weekend cruiser/drive to shows/the track. and yes, Dr. Mopar, i will keep you in mind when i do this hopefully this coming summer!! i'm in school now at purdue university and will have some cash to spare next summer for the engine/drivetrain. thanks for all your help guys!!

Hello there
Yes you could do the work, But you need to change the K menber
and my go with a 383 & 440 the headers are about $500 and you
got to have them make it fit in to the car. My not go with a 400
small block with a 440 crank and bore it 30 over and end up with
the same as a 440 and with a small block you can use stock
manifold ,yes the machine work will cost but you will have a killer
motor, when you go form a slaint six to a V-8 you have to change
the torsonion bar on the right side. because of the wt differance
between the V-8 and the slaint six. There is alot you can do with a
400 and it will run just as hard as any 383 or 440. And it will
go into the car alot better. I'm putting in a V-8 in a 1968 dart
it has a slaint six in it right now. The motor that i'm putting in
is a , 318 bord 30 over with 360 J heads on it with a mild cam.
Anyway you have a good weekend, and good luck with your car.
