Question /6 Charger

I've got a 71 Charger with the average everyday 225 slant 6. I checked the VIN and broadcast sheet, and the car is #'s matching. How unusual is it for a 71 Charger to have a /6? Does anyone have any idea as to how many of these Chargers were produced? Also does any know why the car is coded as a hardtop (WH23) when it's really a coupe (rear quarter windows are fixed)?

i find the slant powered chargers pretty strange, because the base engine on chargers were 318's, and you had to actually downgrade your car to get a slant. I haven't seen too many chargers with slants. The factory probably made the base engine a 318, because they had dobts about the slant being able to push that big heavy car around and still make it seem like a charger.

They are very unusual, indeed. I don't know the exact numbers, but I expect they are quite rare. Sometimes the slant six powered cars are the rarest of all, but because people see the slant, and assume because the engine is common, that the combination is as well, which certainly isn't so. I knew a fella who had a Challenger slant six convertible, and he said it was one of only 3 or 4 made, I doubt the numbers of slant six Chargers are much higher.

Thumbs up

Whoa, slant six Chargers are very rare. I have only seen two: one 16 years ago when I was in high school, and one in a junk yard in California in the early '90s. The slant six (225) was the standard engine in the Chargers starting in '69 through '72, when the 318 came standard. Is your car a 3spd manual or automatic? I know about odd slant six cars, I have a '72 Satellite Custom with one. I'm still trying to find out how many where made!
