I have an '83 D-150 with a Slant and the OD 4 speed. On the highway it will get up to 22mpg as long as there is no head or crosswind. It doesn't like OD in the wind.
Slants respond very well to upgrades. ![]() |

I agree. They are very good on gas and they are very tough to destroy. They will take tons of abuse over any other engine I have seen. They respond real well to performance mods. Mill the head .095 and it's now 10 to 1. They make 4 bbl intakes and 3 into one split headers for them. Comp cams carries a full line of cams and nitrous will wake them up too.

The slant6 is the most durable gasoline engine ever produced. My 73 duster with a 225 slant6 1bbl that has 140,000 miles on it gets over 20mpg starts up fine weather its 100degress out or 20below.
