Question 1972 Scamp/Valiant?

Hello All,

Looking for some words of wisdom regarding the following:

Are all 1972 Valiant 2 door hardtops considered Scamps?

Are there any known differences between Canadian and American versions?

Thanks!
Allan

Not sure if this helps or not but....

I just got my 71 Scamp back to Canada from the U.S. and it's a 2-door hardtop. Says Valiant - Scamp on the side.

Again, not sure if that helps or not lol

There is a hegh end Valiant that they called Valiant Brogham. It looked like a Scamp with a luxery type bucket seat interior, and a lot of sound deadner.

The 2dr models were called scamps 4dr models are just valliants. Chrysler made 4 different cars w/ 2 basic styles. They took the Dodge Dart (2dr & 4dr) hung a Duster Nose on it and viola: Scamp & Valliant! Then the took a Dart nose and hung it on a Duster and made the Dodge Demon. Take a look at any of these cars and look at the shape of the wheel wells. The Scamp has the Duster wheel well shape in the front and the Dodge Dart shape in the rear. The oposite occurs on the Demon . The Dart and Duster wheel well shapes are the same front to back.

Default 71 Scamp

I have a 71 Scamp, 2 Door Hardtop. It has a small metal/plastic label with VALIANT, and Stickers of SCAMP.
In addition, if anyone has any suggestion, I am trying to restore this Scamp. It was my grandmothers, currently has only 55518 miles on a 318. I'm looking for a dashboard (Green), which is going to be almost impossible to find. Any suggestions, let me know!

I don't know the specifics but there are several years and models the dash pad will interchange. There's probably someone here who can tell you the exact info. If you can't find a green one, you can always have vinyl paint mixed in the correct color and repaint the replacement. (SEM, Dupont, etc.)
Good luck,
Dallas

rolleyes2 '76 Scamp

I have a '76 Scamp Special /6 - 2 dr with a vinyl top. It's in resto stages now. I removed the old cracked vinyl top..lots of rust. Plan to just paint the top...maybe white. Originally it was a metallic (metal flake) green with a green/black interior. Its all numbers matching, but I could give a rat's rump about all that. Gonna' paint her black with either a black or white hardtop...haven't decided yet. So, yes to your question...I belive all 2 door Valiants in the '70s were Scamps.

The Valient Brougham were only produced in 1974 and 1975.

Here's production on Valient for those years:
(Note that Valients were built on a 110" wheel base, and the Fastbacks were on a 108" wheelbase).
1974:

VL29 Duster Fastback coupe
VS29 Duster 360 Fstbk cpe. Total Prod VL29 & VS 29: 277,409

VL41 Valient 4 Dr. Sedan
VP41 Brougham 4 dr Sdn. Total Prod. VL41 & VP 41: 127,430

VP23 Brougham Htp Coupe (2 dr) Total Prod: VP23: 2545
VH23 Scamp Htp Coupe (2 dr). Total Prod: VH23: 51,699

1975

VL29 Duster Fstbk Cpe Ttl.Prod: 79,384
VH29 Duster Custom Fstbk cpe Ttl.Prod: 38,826
VL41 4 dr. sdn " " 44,471
VH41 Custom Sdn 4 dr. " " 56,258
VH23 Scamp htp cpe " " 23,581
VS29 Duster 360 fstbk cpe V8 " " 1,421
VP23 Brougham htp cpe (2 dr) " " 5,781
VP41 Brougham sdn 4 dr " " 17,803

In 1976 the Valient line was trimmed back to just 4 models they were :
VH23 Scamp Htp coupe 6,908 built
VL23 Scamp Special htp Coupe 4,018 "VL29 Duster fastback Cpe 34,681 "
VL41 Valient 4 dor sedan 40,079 "

Also in 1976 Volare went into production with eight different models. The Volare was also built on two different wheel bases. The sedans and wagons were built on a 112.5" WB, and the Coupes (2 drs) were on a 108" WB.

The "A" body Valients duster, and their dodge counterparts were discontinued after 1976.

spitfireal To answer your question, only the 2 door hardtops were called "Scamp" in 1972. Here are the numbers for that year:

VL29 Duster fastback Coupe: 212,331
VL41 Valient 4 door Sedan: 52,911
VH23 Scamp Hardtop Coupe: 49,470 Weight: 2825#, Base Price: $2528.00
VS29 Duster fastback Coupe V8: 15,681

Note: In 1972 all Valients were built on the 108" WB, except the Scamp which is built on the 111" wheel base.

BTW, Year One has a lot of "A" body replacement parts.
