Question

I have "77" Slant six 225 out of a Dodge Ram. Thats going back in upon completion. The engine has been bored 30 over and has a one barrel off of a 318 on it and a 3 speed w/OD manual backs it all up. Upon completion it is going to have a header and possible duals. I'm looking for real good steet performance (no drag strip) without to rough of an idle. Any recomendations from past experience on the engine or choice of cam?

IN your truck i would go with the MP 244/436 it has a lot of tork and good idle also.but if you are going to use headers you should get a super six 2bbl bbd and manifold 1977/79 .See the heads or tails posting for more info.I been finding alot of info out their that's not true.LIKE the the stock cam 244/406/414 they say was in the 1971 to 1977 cars isn't true my 79 super six has it also.like mopar headers that they don't sell Plus i have seen the part# .I know cliffords and Headman sells them but not cheep and mopar stop selling them last year or the year before and it was 6 into 1 not 3 n 3 like i've read in books and other sorces .Doug Dultra sell's a good set up using the stock type manifold and splits them 3n3 so you can keep the heat riser and their reliable.the 75/76 axaust system is pritty good to i'm using it now with 2"pipe and a turbo muffler that seem's to work pritty good.ALL i'm saying is check to see if what your looking for is still availlable because high performance parts are hard to find.good luck on your project!

I've got the 244/.436 cam in my /6, and like Speedy told, the torque and throttle response is great, but the power not. It's all done at 4000 rpm, and personally I would use a bigger cam than that.

I see you have a over drive also the truck most likely has a 3.23 in it .You could run a 3.91 no problem with over drive .I had a 77 with O.D SUPER SIX the car was vary quick and good on the high way ,but if you change the gear go with the 268/460 mp/cam.

Since you're going to have bigger tires on a truck, I'd guess at least 27" tall, I'd suggest a 4.10 or 4.56 gear. The O.D. transmission will make it o.k. on the highway. If you're going to cut the head a good amount for compression, try the 268/.460" Purple Shaft cam.
A one barrel off a 318? Do you mean a 2 bbl. Carter BBD? That's what every 318 I've ever seen (stock) had on it. Except the '78 and later 318 4 bbl. cars.
