Default ALERT !!! 1970 Charger R/T found, possible stolen car!!!

I have had the older RWD Moparsa for about 15 years, but kinda got out of them 5 years ago due to rising costs and wanting better gas mileage.

I was driving home yesterday, and saw a bright yellow 1970 Charger R/T on the back of a tow truck, sitting across the street from an auto body shop in North Hollywood, CA. Out of curiosity, I stopped to check it out. It looked like it had been sitting under a tree for a couple years.

But -- big problem. The VIN tag read YM23T2C121186 - 1972 Chrysler Imperial / LeBaron VIN tag!

Also, there were no door locks and no ignition lock at all. Mileage was a bit over 25000 on the odometer.

I went across the street to the auto body shop and asked about the car. They said a friend had just bought it and was going to have it painted.

I came back later in the evening and opened the hood. the VIN on the fender tag was XS29U0G186260 , and the number stamps on the radiator support confirmed it.

It's a bright yellow car with black vinyl roof and black interior, no console, column automatic. No tach in the dash.

The correct 6 pointed rivets had been used to attach the Chrysler VIN tag, but they did not sit flat and flush like rivets normally do.

I'm already in touch with local police and I emailed Galen Govier about it also.

So if anyone knows anything about it, email me at thematch131@hotmail.com .

GOOD on you to pursue this – the VIN thing definitely could point to some fishy business. Hope something positive comes of this, because I sure hates me a thief.

Nice job!

I got a call back from the police today, they said they went to the car, confirmed it was stolen, and took it back. The owner of the car is here in the Los Angeles area, and it's been missing for several months.

I told the police to pass on my contact information to the owner, I'd like to talk with him for a while.

So I'm glad I was able to help someone get their old Mopar back!

It is good to run into someone honest for a change. I had a 72 charger stolen in the 80s. Never saw it again pretty sure it was disasembled.
