When I first started to race was in 1986. The big thing was SCCA's showroom stock class. The hot ride in that class was the Dodge Shelby Charger. So off to the dealership I went to buy one. Thats right, showroom stock is showroom stock.
Anyway they have a non option model on the floor, what luck. It was then time for the "test drive". My sales man was a hefty guy somewhere in the 300 to 350lb range, could bearly fit in the seat, and with my brother in the back seat off we go. I asked him if there was some twisty roads around , he said yea, and thats where we went. I get into these twisty's fast and flying, and you should have seen this guys belly going back and forth in the seat next to me. His eyes were as big as grapefruits.
We got back to the dealership and left.
I went back a couple of days later to buy the car and the same salesman was there. He said they thought I was just having fun with the dealership went I was there before and was surprised to see me come back. But I did by the car, won the very first race I was in with it and won 2 championships. Before I totaled it 2 years later at willow springs turn 9 in a end over end flip at 110mph.
