Hello all,i just found this site today, what a neat site for mopar lovers.I have many stories about street racing a 360 duster i once owned. It was a 74 360hp car that i hopped up a little. It was .030 over dished pistons 8-1 comp. 280 mp cam headers stock int. with thermoquad, pocket ported j heads,727 trans 11 inch convertor,8 3/4 rear with 4.10 gears & soft tires. This guy i worked with had a 68 chevelle 327 with the usual hop ups a powerglide & 4.56 gears.he said he could beat my 360 smog motor any day of the week,so i told him to prove it.this was the first time i had raced the duster after i put the 4.1 gear in.He thought i still had the 3.23 in it.So we went to the place where everybody raced one night after work.I guess word got out about the race so there was about 20-30 people there when we got there.one of my mopar buddies had rode in the chevelle & told me he thought i could beat him with no problem.he bet about 5 of the chevy guys there 20 dollars apiece & i bet the owner 20$ .so we lined up & someone flagged us off.i got a car link on him on the start & when i went to second gear the chevelle started fading back.when i shifted to high i could see his headlights in my rearview mirrow.my friend said i beat him about 6-8 car lengths and i had let up to 1/2 throttle before i got to the finish line. After the race all the chevy guys were shocked & they wanted to see my motor. They were puzzled when they seen the stock looking a motor with no bottle. After that it was duster vs. chevy as i raced a different one almost every week beating probably 8 out of 10 of them.
