Ok, here's a car race story for you. A couple of years ago I was tooling home from work in my 72 Swinger. In my rear view mirror I see a BMW coming up my six at a rapid clip. So I hammer it, we get up to 80 or so, deserted highway, and he can't pull me. So I let him get alongside then I dust him, over and over I do this to him. My exits coming up so I take it as does the M3. Cool, the light ahead has two left turn lanes and I'm in the outer lane, lights green so we fly around that corner, I do it faster than he did. Next light, a straightaway, is red we stop. Motor's rev, light turn green and I flatten that piece of kraut junk. Now my Swinger wasn't stock, but wasn't far and I doubt the total cost of my car all mods included equaled his yearly insurance payment. I had a 79 360 in it with a stock 4bbl intake, 340 Magnum cam and a 750 AFB. Stock 79 Torqueflite and a 2.45 geared 8 1/4. I had fat swaybars front and rear, Addco's, and KYB's all around. Added the later discs and was running P225 BFG Radial T/A's all around. Still had the original slant 6 torsion bars in it. Not too spectacular or expensive but enough to thump the M3.

The "Ultimate Driving Machine" ain't!!! Good story, there's hope for me yet -- instead of a Duster, I'd like to do the same thing with a Swinger or Valiant of the same vintage. Thanx for info. JC

Nathan, FYI a Duster is a Valiant w/ the rear 1/2 dressed up to look sporty instead of the standard squared off look of the std. Valiant. I'm not knock'in the std Valiant here.
Being a former owner of a factory ordered '70 plum purple 340 Duster w/ 3.90 to 1 limited slip unit. The little metal Valiant badge was right on there!
And did you read my "race story" a ~ month ago on how I blew off my buddy and his '61 Vette, ~350 hp(detuned from ~425 for street use) 283 bored to 287 cubes. Funny how these little 340s just eat these so-called Monsters - alive!
