Question

Has anyone raced a new 5.7L 6 speed Firebird yet or have any idea how fast they run?

Be careful, they should be running high 13s off the showroom floor. The Muscle car is back, in small numbers, but in meaner form.

Saw one on the wheel dyno at the Carcraft show. Did almost 320 hp at the rear wheels with only an air inlet mod. They are very quick if the driver is able to get a good launch.

I think the 95s and 96s were LT1s. The new ones have the LS1 which is the baddest production motor GM has made in a long time!

Depending on the driver mid to low 13s with serious traction problems. With about $400 in mods, they break into the high 12s. Put some drag radials on them...watch out. Yeah the LS1s are fast.

a friend of mine had a WS6(just had a kid and had to sell it...the car I mean)6 speed. the only mods he did to it were a cat back Borla and an Air filter and he said his best time was 13.2....thats a 3800lb car(according to the sticker on the door). SOmething to note
that engine uses rockjer shafts(like a mopar) uses 4 bolts per hole to hold down the head(like a mopar) and its deck height is about 1/2 inch higher than the older 350s..very similar to a mopar. also has a deep skirt block(do I need to say it again).
my question...why didnt mopar built the damn thing.

Chrysler didn't make it because Benz owns them now and they kill all the cool ideas from chrysler. I guess they're afraid that Chrysler will muscle in on their territory.

I've raced a firebird, formula, trans am, cobra, gt, z28 SS, the list goes on-I love it! But not in my truck. I agree with the previous posts, with a few mods they'll hit low 12s (that's what I'm working on). If you need any further proof go hit the LS1.com forum (my other on-line home ). Just be careful if you decide to taunt them they become very protective, but I'm sure that's true with all car enthusiasts. Later!
Andrew

PS-On the new model f-bods, an auto tranny is just as fast as an M6. I have the manual but know that autos will hook better and they don't lose time slow shifting like typical M6's.

My track times in my Firehawk where back in 1996. Practically off the showroom floor without any drag radials and synthetics (used that GM gunk). Otherwise it would be a bit quicker.

If I ever put long tube headers, a torque arm, and drag radials on this thing I'll be in the 12's without a doubt.

Later, Rob.

*Sigh*

Somebody needs to build up a stout Magnum 380 crate-powered (thoroughly checked out by your local engine shop first, of course), A727-backed (capped with a GV OD unit, of course), 8 3/4 solid rear-axle-equipped (sportin' 4.10's, of course) late '90's Dodge Avenger ES.

With full interior, power everything including sunroof.

Of course...

typical import mentality

just let the camaro do the same mods, and he owns you again with a much better looking car, so why start such a silly arguement where noboby will win, and people just get annoyed

It's funny that this was mentioned, a co-worker and I were talking about this today, I thought a turbo New Beetle would make a great sleeper (like the Jetta, PT Turbo, etc), if beepbeep is right, that would embarrass quite a few hot shots at a stop light (I mean come on it's a New Beetle, some thing that's cute can't be fast, right ). Even if the Camaro would be quicker with the same mods, something like that Bug would be a riot against anything less.

Those LS1 camaros and TransAms scoot. It don't take much to make em go like a raped ape. I lost a good friend in one of those. Went under a semi trailer at an extremely high rate of speed. Sad thing was the driver who was half lit survived. My buddy didn't make it. Dude had a beautiful 69 dart 340 and an 89 daytona with a 440.

if a 2001 vette couldnt outrun a car that runs a 14.04 ..either the vette or the driver was having problems...or both.
