2 car lengths behind the Hemi Charger!

I had a little fun tonight. I was coming home and passed a few slowpokes on the one straight stretch on the way. I get over in my lane and some guy in a late model Hemi Charger comes blasting by, almost hitting me in the left rear quarter!
I was driving my trusty old 2000 Grand Caravan, and I thought that was a little rude so I put the pedal to the metal. It didn't make a difference, that Charger was disappearing into the distance down the straight. Then a funny thing happened. You see, out this road is a ton of switch back curves that I know by heart. I pretty much know the whole road clear to the Ohio Valley due to my parents living on one end of the road and my sister living at the other. So next thing you know, the old crazy WV redneck in the minivan is right on the bumper of the hot rod!!
He'd gain a little distance, then the next curve hard on the brakes. Meanwhile, I'm just driving behind him, hammer down, just letting off enough to go around the curves then hammer down again. He spent the last 4 miles with a beat up Grand Caravan rolling on used winter treads with over 200K miles right on his back bumper! It's also good to let the hot rod go first in case any deer decide to jump out.
I finally had to slow down because we got close to home, so I let him go...
If you think that's bad, you oughta see the looks on the faces of the import boys when I put that minivan around them! Oh well, I need to gets me one oh dem dere Hemi mochines one day!

I believe it. Those vans can really roll of you got the balls to keep the pedal to the wood. The horizon I had would do 135 mph flat out. I'm sure the van could roll 120 easy.

Yea, I used to drive my friend's Grand Caravan (can't remember year, but was in tip-top shape -- when he bought it, that is) and that sumgun could MOVE! I hated to admit that I was impressed, but I was.

Being familiar with the type roads Stoga is talking about, having driven on them a lot, I don't doubt it a bit. Ya gotta remember... even if the Charger pulled away at first anyplace he could accelerate, he'd have to start braking sooner and harder than Stoga. These roads up this way have a tendency to follow old animal trails so they are anything but straight with gentle curves.

Like he said, ya gotta know how to drive what you have

Well, the GLHS would do 130. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelby_GLHS
Not really set up for top speed though, with that hatch back body, they're probably aerodynamically limited much like a Gremlin. Same motor in a L-body Charger 83-87 would probably have a lot more top end.

Well you do the math. The speedo was burried at 100 in 4th gear at 4200 rpm. And it'd turn to 6200 rpm in 4th.

I think you'll find it comes out right around 135mph.

I always kinda liked the omni turbo.I had a 87 lebaron gts a year or so ago and when it ran right it was awesome. The car was jinxed though and broke down every other day.It was a 50,000 original mile car too.

Caravan & a Hemi Charger.... there's a 60s song about a guy in a Caddillac who's being followed by a "little Nash Rambler". The Caddy can't shake him no matter what as he goes flat out. Finally as the Caddy's topped out, the Rambler pulls up along side, its window rolls down and the driver yells out: "Hey buddy, how do I get this outta 2nd gear?" ....If I find the name of the song, I'll get back and you can see if it parallels your sentiments.
