Angry Got beat by a ferd tonight

We were going about 50 on the highway and we both punched it. I took off a little in front of him but them he just pulled away from me. This was an F150 ext cab and assuming it was the 5.4. It was definantly not stock. He had an exhaust and maybe he was even supercharged. When he punched it his truck made this loud screaming noise like air rushing trough a hole. I dont know if thats what a supercharger sounds like but anyhow this truck was pretty quick. This leads me to my question, what mod next. I cant stand the fact that I lost to a freakin ford. I have about $300, should I go with the Mopar Pcm next. I plan on getting a transgo shift kit sometime this weak or next weak.

Cool My opinion, based on my own experience.....

Yep, get the MP PCM, then, save up some more and put in a LSD and 4.10 gears. If the ford is supercharged, even these wont be able to make you keep up, but you can whoop his ass on light to light racing!!!! His supercharger dont help much there. a supercharger is in its element when its on the highway And yes, a supercharger will have a high pitched whine to it.

Default Fords

I don't mess with Fords on higher end speeds... I tend to lose quite often as well (no big deal!). They have nicer power bands on high end. But on the low end you should pull away from them until about 60mph they might start creeping. I raced a extended cab 5.4L too... The race was dead even until 88mph he begin to inch up on me beating me a tad, I dropped it back down to 3rd shutting Overdrive off and I caught back up and held the race constant. I suggest 4.10 gears and posi first... then mopar pcm. But thats an extra 400 bux. 4.10s will improve your higher end 50+ pickup speed as well.

Good Luck

Thanks guys for the info. I guess saving up for the 4.10's is the way to go but the problem is trying to convince my dad that its not going to use a lot more gas since he pays for my gas. I think I'll just get the Pcm for now, save up and next year while I'm away for college Ill get the 4.10's and then like cmyindy said get the supercharger

Your dad pays for your gasoline?? WOW, GOOD DEAL! People who switch to 4.10s say that their mileage improves by like 1MPG because it puts the truck more into the power band and the engine runs more effeciently. Also, tell your dad that with 4.10 and limited slip differential you will get better traction in the snow and rain, which will in turn make your truck safer.

Mods I'd if I had your Indy:
1.) Ram Air Box (you already got the 14x3)
2.) 4.10 gears w/ LSD (as already stated)
3.) Mopar PCM (if your dad is willing to pay for premium fuel)
4.) IAT Adjuster (only $40, and may advance timing 2-3*)

Yeah I am lucky that my dad pays for my gas. He'd rather me go to school and continue playing baseball which got me a scholarship than to work. I am grateful that my parents feal this a way although I do work in the weekends. Well anyway I was a little skeptical about the IAT adjuster but it seems everyone just has positive things to say about them. Guess I gotta get me one of those. If I can convince my dad that my truck will be safer in the snow(I live in Miami,Fl) with the Lsd then boy I should be a lawyer or something .lol

sorry had to say it.........I've only raced 1 time in my powerstroker and it was against a 2500 Ram QC SB 2wd with a Cummins, me driving a 250 SD SC LB 2wd from a stop pulling on the highway I guess my turbo kicked in first and got a small jump, was even until 80 or so when I hit OD I just started leaving him. the ford did a whole lot better than I expected...... A dodge with a 360 could show me up though(unless we're both towing )

Scott, must have been a pre-24 valve cummings and an auto that they guy was driving, because my friends 99 QC Dually 5sp Cummins 24V would eat a ford PowerSuck's lunch and crap it out in its face! Ive done it personally in his truck. Stock for stock he could outrun my gas 360! In a 1 Ton! I can easily outrun him now, but man are those diesels quick, dont be fooled

Indy7, if your dad pays for gas, then he will go for the gears first over the MP PCM. The gears will give you alot of acceleration, will give the truck a great feeling of power on the interstate when cruising, and will not lower your MPG, I have actually gained 1-1.5 mpg on the interstate, got my best mileage out of my truck ever with my 4.10's driving to south Texas, and I didnt baby it either, got 14.4 mpg doing from 80-95 mph, with a few races to 120+ mph. Best mileage I had before was a trip to old mexico and drove approximately the same way, about the same temperatures, and got 13.2 average. The 4.10 gears put the truck into its powerband, where it should have been geared from factory. It is a mod that no one here has regretted, I was one of the first guinea pigs to try it, and was told it would ruin my highway drivablilty. Some of those same people now have the 4.10's in their truck after my testimonial

Thanks all for the info. I guess I might just save up for the gears and convince my dad that I'll get the same or better mileage. I can expect to pay about $650 more or less for lsd 4.10's with intstallation or am I way off.

Arrow 4.10 gears

i say go with the 4.10s also...had mine done about 3 weeks ago, have yet to regret the most expensive mod yet....about $700 altogether, and that included a posi unit too....YEEHAW!! lol...anywaysi have seen a 1-2mpg increase as well, very weird with my truck...and something else weird....i dont have my speedo corrected yet(next week or so) but i seem to have a higher top speed...before the gears got to about 104mph, now with the gears i wrapped that bad boy around to 130mph, non corrected though, the difference is only about 10-15mph corrected......

NOT THIS DODGE!

Indy7 after you get the PCM, you could try some smaller tires to bring up the gear ratio a bit. Both will hit the mileage pretty hard tho. Good luck!

Hey guys, I think you are miss spelling Ford. Its F-O-R-D, not F-E-R-D. Maybe you are doing it by accident, I'm not sure. Thank you.

cdignition, I'd love to hold you to that offer but I dont think your computer would work on my truck(360). I think I am going to save up for the gears. The problem now is finding a good shop that will install them.

Mr. MOPAR
I have my doubts that the cold air would make any noticeable difference that my setup already but I could be wrong. I know there's been some pretty hot flame wars on this subject before.
