Ok, so my wiifes best friend has an 18 year old son that has a mitsubishi mirage. He told me that he was going to the local dragstrip (Knoxville Dragway) with some of his buddies for an import "car show / test and tune"
So I had to see what all the hype is about and rode with his dad (in his 92 Chebby 4x4(yes, we got some dumb looks)) to the strip.
I have never seen soo much wasted energy at a drag race in my life! These guys pull up to the staging lights, wait till the GREEN lights lite, the dump the cluthes and wheel spin for 50- 60 feet! I couldnt believe what I was watching.
So I told my friends kid what he was doing wrong, and he actually listened! I told him to USE the burnout box to get the tires hot. And no matter what the other guy does, dont dump the clutch and smoke em off the line. After my advice, he knocked one full second off his e.t. to 10.05

The fastest car their was an Eagle Talon turbo @ 9.40sec. even he was screwing the pooch! He could have knocked a half sec off if he would get his turbo spooled up before launch. Instead he just sat there and reved up on the bottom yellow light and dumped and spun.
So If your in knoxville and you want to beat up on some easy prey, go to knoxville dragway they are still running on weekends as long as people keep showing up(so says the concession stand lady)
hope this was as entertaining as my experience today. yeah right! HA!

they really have no clue what to do at the track. My T/R may stink but I least I start to go on the last yellow.

And really who told them spinning the tires is the best way to improve you 60' times?

Yeah, its an 1/8th mile track.
It sure made for a good laugh though. Next time there is a ricer day, Im gonna take my VW golf down there and show them how its done (with no wheelspin!)
