Biggrin Honda MiniVan vs Honda Civic

I know it's not Mopar, but it's a funny race I had last weekend and I'm bored, so I'll share it with you all.

Last weekend my company rented a Honda minivan to take a trip to Atlantic City, NJ from here in Lynchburg, Va. for a sign show convention. The van was fairly new and had about 20,000 miles on it. It's about an 8 hour trip each way and there were 6 of us in the van and all of our luggage. When we're coming back into town and allmost at our shop on Saturday night at around 11:30 or so, I pull up to the last stop light I have until we're back at the shop. This kid and his girlfriend pull up next to us in a white Civic with white rims, lowered, and one of those fart tips on his exhaust to make the thing sound really annoying. I tell everyone to hold on! I'm gonna race this guy! I was laughing and knew I had no chance, but figured what the hell. I start reving the van and inching forward and he starts doing the same. I lean over the steering wheel and keep looking back and forth from the road to him. Giving him this look like I'm gonna kick your a**, but I had this stupid grin on my face at the same time. It was all done as if it was a big joke. Everyone in the back is now leaned over and looking at this kid and pointing and laughing, but at the same time they're telling me I'm going to get my a** kicked. It was just something to try and break up the long drive and wake everyone up. I didn't care if I was going to loose.

Light turns green and I stomp it like I'm trying to put my foot through the floor. The Civic takes me off the line, but not by much. And then the damnest thing happened... we started climbing on him. By about 45 to 50mph we're even with him! Everyone in the van is now screaming in disbelief as we are actually giving him a run for his money! I keep it floored and can't believe what's going on. We actually start passing this guy, not flying by him, but none-the- less passing him. When we get to about 85mph his front bumper is just behind our rear bumper and everyone is laughing and screaming and pointing at this guy, and they said you could tell he was not a happy camper. Anyway the van gave out on me at 85mph, just didn't have anything left in it, and at this point the guy was inching his way up beside me. When I realize the van just isn't going to go anymore I let out of it and watch as he goes by. I claim this one as a victory, and was one of the funnest I've ever had. It certainly woke everyone up and we all laughed and talked about how the minivan with 6 people and luggage took out the riced up civic. If that's not enough incentive for that kid to get some performance mods done, then I don't know what would be.

Oh, and talk about a change. When we got to the shop, and I let my brother take the van back to the rental place, I got in my SC 4.7 Dakota 5 speed, after driving that slow automatic minivan for so long, it was... just... too... sweet. I was primed and ready to tear someone up, but the roads were clear on the way home from there, so I had to enjoy running it like I just stole it, and feeling that Supercharged V8 boost all by myself.

Man, now I feel bad.

It wasnt too long ago a chick in a Toyota mini-van was starting shit with me. I thought she was just messing around and she gave me a run for my money up to 85 or 90 before I let off because I and the other 2 guys in my 93 Dakota 4x4 with 318 and auto almost died of laughter.

Andrew, that really does suck, but don't feel too bad. 4X4 trucks are not meant to be fast, kinda like mini-vans.

But anything can be made to go fast. Looks like it's time for you to start modding that truck of yours. Slap on a Kenne Bell Supercharger on that 4X4 and you'll not only be able to play in 1-2 ft of snow, but you'll also give most of these "sports cars" a run for their money in a stop light to stop light race. Not to mention those pesky mini-van driving moms!

Sounds like the time I had 5 passengers (6 people total) in my old '95 Intrepid ES (custom intake/cat-back exhaust, splitifires, thats all) and kept a '95 Mustang GT at bay up to 100mph. I didn't think I stood a chance either...

On a related note, all 5 people are now driving various Chrysler products.
