I'll give the rotary's one thing, their durable as hell. A friend of mine showed me a video where these two guy purposely blew one. It had one of it's rotors already huffed. It was a 2nd gen RX-7 that they were going to rebuild anyway. They let it get up to operating temperature and then they just floored it in park in the driveway. It topped out at 9,000 RPM's and stayed there. They left the radiator cap off as well and it kept cool for the first 6 minutes of steady 9,000 RPM's. It finally started to blow all the coolant out of the radiator. They had shut the camera off for a couple minutes to put up the convertible top due to the coolant volcano. After that the temperature gauge was pegged, but it was still running just fine. A few minutes later it finally blew out the apex seals and no longer had any compression, so it quit running. It had apparently blown the mufflers off and the exhaust pipe was nice and glowing cherry. Under the car the exhaust was on fire. After all that the engine was still rebuildable.

Default Anyone remember...?

All this talk about the SRT-4! While it's a great car, doesn't anyone remember the Iroc Daytonas and Turbo III Spirits? Both had the rare 230 HP turbo 2.2. Everyone's acting like 230 HP in a Mopar is a new thing, but it's been done before!!

Yeah, I'll say, '68 - '70 318's had 230 hp. Heck, we get way over 400 plus with a very mild race 360.

First off, the 2.2L DOHC Turbo III's were rated at 224 horsepower, not 230 horsepower. Secondly, the SRT-4's have been proven time and time again that their 230 horsepower at the flywheel is a gross understatement, many magazines and individual owners have more than enough dyno proof of it at the wheels, I've seen and read 235-245 WHP. The '03 SRT-4's were rated at 215 horsepower, but were dynoed and they put out 226 WHP. The SRT-4's are running mid-high 13's 100% stock, the Iroc R/T's and Spirit R/T's were mid-high 14's stock.

The reason people are talking about the SRT-4's is because you can go to your local Dodge dealership and buy one, the Turbo III cars have been out of production for over a decade and they are a little hard to come by. I've always loved the Iroc R/T's, but the SRT-4's will blow their doors off. This is the by far best performance that has been in any Mopar, besides the Viper, and it's affordable. Heck, except for the Viper, and now the SRT-10 Ram, this is the quickest/fastest Mopar since the early 70's and thats why it's talked about.

Actually, that saying should be amended: there's no replacement for technology AND displacement.

The only thing cooler than a 10-second Dart or Duster is a 10-second Dart or Duster than can also hit 25 mpg. Boost is boost -- every Rex or Hoopra out there that than can drop single-digit quarter-mile times would easily meet their match when compared to boosted V8's, V10's and V12's.

Power is not the problem when it comes to boosted V8's: traction is. Power is so abundant that most V8 enthusiasts don't need boost -- what the hell are you gonna do with 1,600+ pump gas horse?! You need a serious rear-end, serious rear-end suspension, and that not only costs money, it's not that comfy to go cruisin' with. Hence the rise of highway roll-on races from the import crowd through the mid-1990's -- can't launch from a standstill on 18's, y0.

In short, while boost is king, it can be put on anything. Hey, here's a joke: what do you call a 650+ horse Supra? A 13-second ride...

Thats VERY good mate. Before you know it you'll have all the neighbours asking you for a ride to the local shops for milk and bread. LOL!! Do you have any photos of this beast?

Cheers,
Kiwi
