Default charger vs ford xr8

back in australia I was driving along a long country road when henry ford's finest modern xr8(sports v8 sedan) decided to sit about a couple of inches from my bumper. As we approached a roundabout I kicked the charger back into first. As we accelerated through the 727 3-speed auto up to 110 mile an hour I looked over to my friend and asked him to look behind. He couldn't believe that the ford which a moment a go was within inches of my bumper bar was now a tiny speck in the distance. After that the ford kept a considerable distance from us too embarassed to be humiliated again. Incidently my charger is powered by a 360 with race components running high 11 quarter mile times.

Is it an Australian Charger or a U.S. Charger? I would assume that it's an Australian Charger.

Good to hear mate! Have plenty of those around here to, those new FPV vehicles might be a different story, won't be as easy but never the less lunch!

I think it would have to be a US charger unless he put the 360 into an Aussie charger

God kill mate - I think only the lads from downunder will really appreciate that kill, I know I liked it........damn blue oval girls!

Thanks for all the positive replies guys. My car is an aussie made charger built in 1973. It has a worked 360, tricked up 727 and a ford 9 inch 4'11 rear axle ratio. I would like to post some pictures but I am not sure how to do it. If anyone can provide me with the information on how to post some pics It would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a awesome car mate
Do you have access to a scanner? Or have you downloaded your own photos before? If you can there is a "Browse" button below each post, click on that and find where you store your photos, once you have found the photo you want click it and it should load into the box near "browse" then post your post.

Images are only allowed to be 125 x 125 pixels but if there to big you'll be told in the next screen - good luck and I hope that helped a little

Another way if you don't have a scanner or can't load your own photos is find a photo on the internet of the same or a close match to your car, put your mouse icon on it and left click once then go through the mini menu and select "save photo as/to" and put it in a folder for you to get later, then load it on from there using the method above

Nice kill. If your having that sort of incident on a regular basis maybe you should carry, I belive the right term would be "napkins", to toss at them. You know, to show your true appreciation for his brand choice.
I second the motion for the pictures. That has to be one shoehorned fit in that car. That has just GOT to fly.

The 125 X 125 pixel size is only for an avatar. If your simply posting the picture the maximum file size is 124,000 bytes/124KB. As NZ said just click the browse below your message that you are posting and find the picture on your computer. If your picture file is too large, you can use Windows picture editor to downsize the picture.

Well that doesn't look too bad of a fit. For some reason I thought it would be alot tighter between the shock towers. Looks like you have headers on it, custom built I take it.

Either way, it's nice to see BOTH of the rides, to see what our counterparts are doing on the other side of the "rock". They both look in awesome shape. But I have an affection for Black.

Didn't they ban,(regulate) those from production? Something about being too fast,( what is that? To fast , bah).

Did all of the Australian Charger R/T's come with the Hemi 6? And were they all orange? All of them that I have seen, that are original, are orange with the Hemi 6.

To my knowledge they came in a few other colours, Red, Silver, Blue and of course Orange - the engine options were only the 265 HEMI but in other models VF VJ & VK they could also get 340's, 360's and even a 318. I hope Chryslerman71 can confirm this

Hi Guys. All R/T's had the 265 Hemi. The base R/T platform had a 2 bbl version, while the 6 packs were available in 2 configurations initially....E37 (street pack, 248 HP), and E38 (race package, 280Hp). This then evolved to the E48 (248hp) and E49 (302 HP).

Small block V8's were available in the Charger 770, with the 318 initially in 71. The 340 became available in 72/3 (E55 option) but polution laws saw it replaced with the 360 by the end of 74. 360's were phased out after the VK range (75) and only the 245/ 265 Hemi and 318 was available from then on. Unfortunately Muscle Cars were pretty much dead in the water by 75 and Chrysler Aust was in survival mode.

Common colours ordered with the R/T were Mercury Silver, Limelight, Hemi Orange, Vitamin C, Hot Mustard, Magenta.......but cars were built under Special order in Blondi beach (white), Smoke Blue Metallic, Russet Metallic, Citreon Gold Metallic, Green Go, Little Hood Riding red, and a few more.

For some reason the Vitamin C cars were mostly used in posters etc....but I rarely see many in this colour today.

Cheers....snappy.

To add to the above the charger r/t (road and track) E49 model was fitted with the 4-speed manual box and tripple webber carburettors. Till this day it still remains the fastest produced factory production car in australia ever. It was even faster down the qtr mile than the ford falcon phase 3 which is powered by a 351 cleveland. Ford out muscled by a 6 cylinder, how's that for performance.

Hi NZ

The BA turbo was the first true production car to beat the R/T 0 - 100 times, but it took em 30 years (and NO points ignition :-) so we figure we're doing ok!! Not sure about the FPV car.

Just to clarify ...all E37/ E38/ E48/ E49 cars had the 6 pack engine(and webers). The '3' and '4' in the engine option designates the 3 speed and 4 speed gearbox. The Charger was the MOST Australian car in its time. Ford cars used US engines and parts, Holden used Chev engines. Chrysler used Weber carbs from Italy....but the rest was designed and built in Australia!

A lot of people get hung up on the E49, but the truth is...there is one gear and 22Hp difference. The racing teams considered it an upgrade, so most of the E49 racecars were actually E38's with extra's.

A 340 (with A833) was fitted to a highly modified ute. This car was modified to simulate an R/T without giving away the shape. When tested it was 2 seconds per lap slower than the 6 pack cars,!!! With the added weight saving of a 6 cylinder Australia went Hemi 6 instead of small block.

I get a little passionate ...lol. Sorry if I'm hogging the board. Have done a fair bit of research on the subject for an Aussie Chrysler magazine I write for......slick6packs.

Hey Snappy, don't worry about hogging the board - your not that's what it's here for talking cars
I'd love to see Mopar come back to Bathurst!!!!!! Show those guys what we can do, if there letting abitsofshitsi in why not Mopar?? They would have a good chance only problem is there are no car's that would be in that "class", well not that I can think of but I'd love to surport Mopar rather than just watch the racing

What sport do you follow mate? Rugby, Aussie Rules, League?

Cheers,
NZ

Remember some years ago when the nissan skyline godzilla's were unbeatable. Bathurst was changed to a two car category race, to keep the holden and ford fans happy. They are too scared of having foreign imports in the race such as chrysler coming down because they know they will be soundly beaten.

Yip who can't remember the Godzilla, if I had a favorite rice that would be it - to much traction out of corners and great handling, but it was beaten in straight line pace
Well Chrysler/Dodge might still have a chance if there thinking of letting a-bits-of-shitsi in

>>>>Well Chrysler/Dodge might still have a chance if there thinking of letting a-bits-of-shitsi in<<<<

Unfortunately the odds are stacked against any other manufacturer getting a lookin. V8 supercars is a media circus which generates lots of cash and very poor racing (between 2 brands). It's sewn up and Mitubishi, chrysler or any other brand has little or no chance of a serious run.

The Nations cup series was looking good for a while, but ProCar came very close to going broke last year.......so to buy their future they allowed a custom built Monaro (which didnt qualify) to run!!....and they made money. This year they allowed two to run.......They made MORE money.

Any bets which way the race will go next year?

I had my cars in parades at both Bathurst 24Hr events but I was pretty disheartened at the corporate sell-out this year and wont be returning.....shame really. Australia is running out of good motor-racing!
