SS396 Nova versus 3.0 Dodge Shadow

A few months back, I was sitting at a stoplight on the outskirts of town. A black SS396 Nova pulls up next to me and gives it a little rev. I followed up by my own deep rev(open exhaust.) He kinda chuckled at me. I saw the opposing light turn yellow, so I throttled up to 2500 rpms, waiting for the launch. The light goes green, I dump the clutch. The tires squeel a little as the grab at the pavement, out of the corner of my eye I see his car walk sideways a little. I finally got some traction and sped off. He was right on my heels. Rpms where climbing when I saw his nose at my door. Shifted into second, and the car lurched to the left, jumping ahead of him a little more. We caught a green light so the battle continued. I heard his motor shift and he eased ahead of me. 6500 rpms, the next light goes yellow. His nose dives as he brakes hard, I stick it in third and mash the pedal harder. Just as I went under the light it went red, and I chuckled to think that the famous SS396 had a fight with a puny 3.0

I remember growing up and hearing about the "awesome" 396 Chevy's. (Grew up in chevyland). After racing a few of them I found they were a joke. Usually any 350 runs as good or better.

Good kill but watch those red lights. Running a light is not a good thing.

Good race, strange how alot of folks don't know how to tune an engine or make one run.
