Default 1950 royal tranny issues

my 1950 chrysler royal has a 4 speed semi auto fluid drive and for some reason wont shift to the hi gear (3 and 4) no one seems old enough to know anything about these around here. perhaps someone here can give advise or direct me to somewhere I could try to figure out my issues.
