in '76 i had a '69 coronet 4 door 318, it had flexipipe for exhaust, it was such a great cruiser i finally killed 'er out in our hay field.
i remember feeling soooo sorry for it, after all it did for me it just sat there looking at me everyday, i finally towed it off to t&o junk yard.
still love mopars it's the big block sound that gets me, i don't know it's the entire package they still command respect even from the shivvy and dorf camp when it comes to straight line performance.

My 2nd MoPar was a 1967 Sport Satellite droptop, white with black interior and cream top, buckets, console, etc. Put an AM/FM/Cassette in the glovebox, along with a booster and hooked it up to the speakers a previous owner had put in the rear seat side panels and front kick panels (the factory radio AM worked just fine, so I didn't disturb it or the speakers). The sound from my systen was fantastic, but I preferred to listen to the car. It had such sweet pipes (true duals). The engine was a cammed 318 with a shift kit in the 727 and 3:55 gears in the rear-end. That car would launch!!! Nobody could beat me off the line, but at 90 mph those 440's would pass me by. What a blast to drive on a sunny day! I actually drove it one winter when my 442's starter burned out, it always started, even at -30.

I sold it back to the guy I bought it from 5 years later, made $2,000.00. I regret it ever since. He hasn't driven it since I sold it to him. What a waste!

Regards,
Jim

My 3rd Mopar is a 1982 Cordoba LS, white, dark blue landau roof (looks like a droptop), dark blue interior, bucket seats (no console, column shift), 225 Super Six, 727 lockup trans, 2.93 gears. Purrs like a kitten and even has decent passing power now (after some tuning). It is in mint condition after 27 years (always in a garage, never driven in winter) with almost 71K miles on the clock. The interior looks brand new. She drives, rides and handles well for an older Mopar with leaf springs and torsion bars. (Nokian 'big & littles' really help the handling, believe me. The turn-in and cornering are awesome, well worth the $728.00 I paid for the 4 tyres.)

I drive it every day to work and the best gas mileage I have gotten is 22.7 mpg (CDN), which isn't bad for a heavy car when you push it like I do.

I am the 2nd owner (bought it from my father-in-law's estate for $300.00 (Three Hundred Dollars) on August 15, 2007 when my 442 had major brake failure on the way to work. The car is a "Lottery" car, cost was $1.00 for the winning ticket. I have all the original paper work from the Lotto people and the dealership which delivered the car on January 5, 1982.

I have paid lots more for project cars that have never made it to the street.

Thank you, MoParchat...

Jim

1967 dart gt 4 speed was my first car

i was brought up a chevy lover.in 1971 i bought a 1967 dodge dart gt with a 273 hypo in it.i was amazed at the power.after that motor blew up.i bought a 340 motor had it installed and that was it.i worked at a drag strip and i raced every weekend.started on thursday finished on sunday.i won trophy after trophy some cash and a lot of respect for my mopar.i've been hooked ever since.i owned at one time a 67 dart,2-68 darts,3-69 darts,3 -70 darts,1-74 sport,1-71 duster, all 340/360 motors,4-speed-automatic's.i currently drive a 1969 dart swinger 6cylinder car that gets 28 miles to a gallon highway.the car is awesome.it was restored from the frame up.i will be putting a picture of it on here as soon as i figure out how to do it.the wife will have to do it,she's good at the computer.i now go to car cruises 4 nights a week.i love to see the mopar guys smile and talk mopar.like they say,if you want to build cheap build a chevy,if you want power, build a mopar.

Default My first Mopar

1966 Dodge Dart 270 2-door. Slant 6, column shifted automatic. Plain white car, never put any money into making it look nicer, car did a great job of getting me around when I was 18. The reason I got into Mopars was my dad. He never was a one brand car guy, I guess he could not afford to be since he was in the Air Force and frequently had to sell his car to move to another part of the world. We lived in Lockport NY and he bought a 1968 Plymouth Satellite 2-door with the 318 2-bbl. One of his buddies owned a 1972 Chevelle with the 350 4bbl. We had gone to Lake Erie for the day with their family. On the way home my dad wanted to ask a question (this is way before they had cell phones and even CB's were still only used by truckers). When my dad pulled up next to the other guy he thought we wanted to race. He floored the Chevelle and took off, my dad stepped on the gas in the Satellite and we quite soon passed the Chevy. We didn't see anything of him until we got home. Needless to say I was quite impressed with that and have been a Mopar guy ever since. Yes I have owned other makes, but usually as an emergency measure.

Default First Mopar

My first Mpoar was a 1974 Plymouth Scamp. That was back in 1980 when I was in high school. It was brown with a white vinyl top and white interior. It had a 318 automatic and A/C. It was a good car but I was hooked on mopars way before then. My cousin had a new 69 road runner when he was a senior in high school. It was tor red with a black vinyl top and magnums. That was the first new car I can remember riding in. I was hooked. Although his road runner didnt survive the first year before being totaled that car got me into the Mopars. I have had many through the years I wish I now owned including 2 69 road runners 70 road runner 70 340 Duster 71 340 Demon 3 69 GTS Darts (one 383) a turbo ll ShelbyZ and too many others to list.

My first car was a 1958 Plymouth Savoy 2dr. htp. automatic 350 with twin carter AFBs. Bought it in Denver (payne auto sales) while on leave for $700.00 in 1963.
Worth more than that now, no doubt.

My first Mopar was a 1968 Barricuda. That 340-S must have been pumping out more that the rated 275 HP, even in 1968. With just a dyno tune, mine consistently hit 14.3 secs and nearly 100 mph at the local drag strip. Accordingly, it used to confuse the RoadRunner and SuperBee pilots who couldnÂ’t figure out why I would slowly pull away from them all the way down the strip.
--
The handling was another matter. The manual brakes felt like pieces of wet, sappy wood rubbing against the drums, which made stops from illegal speeds heart-pounding eye-openers. The manual 19:1 steering ratio required rapid pawing of the wheel like those pirates in the sailing movies spinning the ship’s tiller wheel, “Hard a-starboard, me maties! Arrr!”
--
Together, the brakes and steering gave my 1968 Barricuda the handling qualities of a wounded rhino negotiating a wet clay riverbank. But, damn, it sure went like hell in a straight l

That sounds so familiar, I still have manual steering (in Julia) but at least my brakes are now fixed...what fun it was going down a gnarly hill "down shifting" and then using the "parking brake" at the bottom in time to make the 25mph corner. I had to light-up to get my nerve back.

Quite possibly the ugliest Mopar ever made, or was it the 62 Dart? I had a 62 Dart and loved it! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if you look at these cars long enough, they become beautifull. As a matter of fact it was this car that instilled in me my love of Mopars, No offence intended to 62 Valiant and Dart owners, I'd love to find another one.

How about a poll: What was the ugliest Mopar? Not Mopar bashing at all, but everyone must have a most disliked Mopar. Actually I can't think of one.
Pay no mind to me, just ramblin'. Beer does that.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

It was B5 blue with a white vynal top.

I had a '70 Roadrunner coupe, 383/727. Owned it from '75 to '91. It was just about perfect when I sold it for $9K in 1991! What a dummy, huh?

My first was a 72 Plymouth Fury Gran Coupe that was origionally a Virginia tobacco and firearms enforcement cop car......Was a 2 door, and used for undercover work . My dad was a Mopar nut from back in the 40's, and I think I caught it from him. This car was bought for me to learn how to work on cars, and so we made it our project together....Great way for sons and dads to spend time together. From Rebuilding the 440, to Doing the Brakes, lines and basic neglected items, it was ready for my 16th birthday...which I drove on a date ! I raced at suffolk raceway, and virginia beach dragway regularly...and back and forth to school and work....Was a great car and I miss it today.....Now I have a 68 Coronet RT 440 to keep me from thinking about the fury too much ! That and about 30 other mopar memories that Ive owned ....
