Question DRUM BRAKES? ON FRONT??........To be drum brakes or not to be???

I have a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440 HP. Well, when I purchased the car the motor was gone. But what I do not understand is that the car has drum brakes on the front. I thought that a R/T Charger with a 440 HP would have disk on the front. Does anyone have any info as to why this is or how rare this might be?

Not rare, just ordered that way. Most old timers were still not buying up new tech like power or disc brakes or auto trannies.

The discs were not part of the RT option. I've seen many Charger R/Ts and Challenger R/Ts with drum fronts. Heck, at one point, I even had a '70 Challenger R/T 440+6 and it had the factory drums. It also was not a custom/factory order, it was a standard dealership build up.

Discs were an option. And as stated above they weren't part of the R/T package. Although I've had 4 68-69 B bodies with the Bendix 4 piston calipers and discs, and they were not reliable in the least. The seals were forever going south, bores would wear - just plain bad. The later trick was to hone them and insert a steel sleeve . This was 100% better. However, used the 71up E body or 73 up A body spindle and get the unicasts on there. I've changed my current road runner and Charger over and they are excellent!

Here's Snotzbooger's MA version. These are true anchors! You'll love them

ALOT of old-timers, new-timers and newbies still prefer drums at the drag strip.

They are far better for staging and uNless you have a high $$ set-up - discs can cost you BIG TIME in the 60 foot ET.

You would think that those would all have disk. Thanks for the info.

I may or may not change my 69 Charger over in the future. I have recently, well not long ago purchased a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T that has 4 piston calipers and discs. The car is in bad shape though. As of now I will keep the drums on the 69.

I can understand that. My daily driver is a 1988 Dodge Daytona Turbo with 4-wheel disk brakes. and I have been have problems with the rotors warping often.
