Default No cruise... well sort of

Bought my diesel a little over a year ago and the cruise control has never worked properly.

When you hit the ON button on the steering wheel its supposed to say "cruise" just under the odometer readout yes? Well mine doesn't do anything.

Although, when I try to set the cruise it does kind of work. i can feel the pedal get pulled away from my foot like the speed control is going to take over but then its comes back and the truck starts losing speed. If I hold the "accel" button the truck will maintain speed and maybe gain a little.

Anyone know whats going on here? I'm leaning towards a bad vac servo and no there are no vac leaks. But would a bad servo cause the cruise light to not come on?

I haven't tested the servo to see if it holds vacuum.

Thanks for any help

Devin

Default My guess

A common problem with age related issues is the "Clock spring" in the column. It takes all the steering wheel electrical signals to their proper circuits.
I did have my brake pedal switch go bad, but that does not affect the "Cruise" light, only the operation after setting speed.

I was thinking clockspring too but I checked all the wiring with a multi meter from the pcm to the steering wheel controls and back again and everything appears to be ok.

Like I said when I try to set the cruise it does operate somewhat, it just doesn't hold the speed. All the buttons on the steering wheel operate properly.

It the clockspring was bad wouldn't that mess with my airbag?

Default Shouldn't

Airbag is on it's dedicated circuit. Measuring the clock spring voltages while the wheel is not moving does not give you accurate diagnosis. The circuits act up when the wheel moves the armature across the stator.
