I'm looking for input to solve an ongoing problem. I have a 93 Shadow ES that acts up in cold weather. I can start it with the remote from the house, and it will idle, when you attempt to drive it you must constantly stay on the gas or it will stall.
The car runs perfectly on warm days, it is strictly a problem when it's cold or cool and damp. It has no trouble restarting, but again you have to stay on the gas to drive it, the minute you let off on it the car will stall. The car doesn't indicate any problems through the codes, hoses are good, everything appears sound. Would any particular sensor be the culprit??? |

Perhaps the a.i.s. the automoatic idle speed sensor is faulty.

Would the a.i.s. be temperature sensitive? The reason I ask is the problem exists only on cold days. When it's warm out, there is no problem, it idles perfectly.
The problem is difficult to solve due to it's revolving around the weather. |

Does the tach drop while it stalls? buck a little then quit? My Wife's 92 Spirit 3.0 did this . I bought a rebuilt SBEC(Engine computer) for it and that fixed it

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE OLD DAYTONA 3.OL I USED TO HAVE. IT HAD A REAL DIRTY THROTTLE BODY. I TOOK IT OFF, TOOK THE AIS OUT AND CLEANED THEM BOTH. MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE AIS PASSAGES IN THE TB AS WELL. YOU MIGHT AS WELL CLEAN THE PLENUM WHILE YOUR AT IT.
IT CURED MY PROBLEM. EVEN IF IT DOESN'T CURE YOURS, IT SHOULD BE DONE ANYWAY. IT SHOULD BE A YEARLY SERVICE ALONG WITH A TUNE-UP. IT SURE AS HELL WON'T HURT IT! ![]() GOOD LUCK MAN. I AM SURE IT'S SOMETHING TRIVIAL. |

HE SAID WHEN IT'S COLD OR COOL AND DAMP. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE A CRACKED DIST. CAP OR A PLUG WIRE WITH A BREAK IN THE SHIELDING? IT SOMETHING SMALL.
MY OLD 3.0L HAD A T-STAT THAT WAS STUCK PARTIALLY OPEN. ON COLD DAYS IT WOULD WANT TO DIE BUT ON WARM DAYS IT RAN FINE. THE IGNITION TIMING WAS ALL MESSED UP. IT WAS A NICE EASY $10 FIX. ALL THE 3.0L'S I WORKED ON NEVER HAD MANY DRIVEABILITY PROBLEMS. IF THEY DID, THEY WERE ALWAYS EASY FIXES. I PUT A BUNCH OF VALVE RETAINER KITS AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES IN THOSE CARS THOUGH. (A604 MAINLY) DAMN EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES. HOPE YOU GET YOUR P BODY RUNNIN' RIGHT LINDAMAR. MERRY CHRISTMAS. |

I pretty much ruled out the dist cap based on the fact, if it were cracked it wouldn't start right back up it would crank but not turn over from past experience with another vehicle.
I don't think it's moisture or it would be every time it rained which isn't the case, the cold weather is what starts my problems. I starts right back up, but you must feed it gas to keep it running once the stalling begins. On days it's acting up the tach jumps, a little erratically. After the holiday I'll follow up on the suggestions and see if anything helps meanwhile if anyone else has any thoughts I'm open to trying anything. Thanks everyone for the input, and Merry Christmas. |

Then I would go for the throttle body cleaning and see if the ais motor is working. With a scanner to actuate it or even pull the pcvand or brake booster hose off and see if the idle returns to normal speed after a short while. Then you'll at least know if the ais motor works.
eah Turbo I I bet I've overhauled over 2000 604's so far and counting |
