cry2 Hit a deer

Took my 70 RR Conv. out for a cruize and a huge buck crossed my path. I,m ok thank GOD, but the runner is pretty sick looking. The cops and fireman said it was the biggest deer that they have ever seen.Anyone else ever have this misfortune happen to them? I'm still freakin' out and seein' a non-stop video of the whole thing in my head.

I have never hit a deer personally but one of my good friends is rebuilding a 1970 chevelle ss. They traveled to California to look at the car and they bought it for close to 10,000. On the way home, my friend and his son hit 2 deer in kansas. The car was totaled and his son had a concusion. Depending on the damage it did to your car, i think you were lucky.

I got hit by a bastard running a red light on the way to a show, in my 69 dart. It was about a month after I finished the resto.

Like you, I was not hurt, neither was my girlfriend(wife now)

The Dart wasn't terminal. Pass side fender, hood, bumper straigten/rechrome, and repainted the front clip.

Had it ready for another show, 3 weeks later.

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear that! I've managed to hit 2 deer in the past few years, with a couple of glancing blows besides.
Nothing worse than having walking stupidity, come out in the road in front of you! And in a 70 Roadrunner convertible too!!
At least mine were in my beaters, makes me wish deer season was year round!! Can't eat em in warm weather, but rugs would be just fine!

Sorry to hear about the RoadRunner. That sucks. At least you're alright. That is the important thing.

Sorry to hear that. I have not personally hit a deer, although I did kill a racoon once. You're lucky. A few years back a guy where I used to live hit a deer, the deer landed on the hood with legs facing to the windshield. It then started kicking and bashed the guys face. He did make it out ok after a while.

Man, that sounds scary, seeing a huge animal running across your path at 60 mph and not having an out. Wait, that sounds like the drive down to Tijuana, except it is the illegal aliens your dodging as they try and cross the 12 lane freeway!! Glad you are OK.

For those of you who have never visited sunny Southern California, Pishta is not joking. You guys have your "Deer Crossing" signs, on the I-5 we have "Family Crossing" signs. See for yourself...

Default Road trip stories - Long!

July 1997. I'm on a roadtrip in my very nice air-conditioned '66 charger with a German visitor and her 2 1/2 yr daughter. We're crossing the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada (just by area 51 in the middle of f-ing nowhere.) I hand the wheel over to my autobahn-seasoned guest, and she hits about 90mph and says: "I can't believe how open everything is here in America, I can see everywhere!"
Apparently she was looking too far into the desert because all of a sudden there's a herd of cattle scrambling in front of the car. She basically drives through a calf at about 80 mph, and it just about exploded upon the impact. Something had splattered all over the winshield and I couldn't tell if it was brains or something from the other end of the animal. Yuk!

We were all fine, but the poor Charger was a mess up front. The water pump had been smashed into the engine block and needless to say, we weren't going anywhere. No cell phone coverage, no nothing. A half hour passes in the 110 degree heat and this Cherokee comes driving by in the distance. I go out on the road and wave, standing by my stricken car, but the bastard just swerves by and speeds into the distance. And this guy drives a Chrysler product!

Finally, some couple in a Toyota Camry stops. The guy pulls out a rope and gives us a tow to the next outpost of civilization. I thought that poor Toyota wouldn't make it, but at 20 mph, we finally made it to the Ale'inn (pronounced Alien), a hotbed of alien sighting freaks and wild-eyed survivalists. A tow truck took us to Las Vegas that night, and after a day of repairs at a local radiator shop, the car was driveable again. We made it o L.A. 2 days later in a taped-up wreck. Quite the adventure for all involved.

March 1998. I had just spent 15K on the total resto of my '68 cuda convert.
I take it out for a maiden road trip. I'm driving up the Antelope valley on the 14 when a hailstorm hits. The road got iced in a hurry and all of a sudden this lady with her family in a Geo comes sliding past me, spins in front of me and I plow into her. She was uninsured, but fortunately I had uninsured motorist coverage, which saved me over $1200 in repairs.

What's the lesson here? Get AAA-plus membership. It's the one with unlimited mile towing...
