78 cordoba,starts but won't run?????

when i start my car and let go of the switch it dies.......but it will run if i run a hot wire to the ballist resitor..what can it be?


please help............

If your putting that wire on the passenger side of that resistor then the run side of your resistor is bad and the whole thing needs replacing. Probably cost you 5 bucks.

I'll 2nd that. You need a new ballast resistor

Extremely common fault in the old days.

Many dodge guys keep a spare in the glove compartment.

If that doesn't work, and it should, make sure you have a good ground on the ECU. Mine went bad not too long ago and gave me the same crap....

Same thing happened to me on my 83 W350.. slid around a corner and bumped a curb and it just quit.. at lunch I got some help and they swore it was a carb problem.. tore the carb down and then noticed a loose wire.. pluged it back in and put the carb together and it ran like a champion..
