adjustable rocker arm adjustment

I have a set of the stock 273 adjustable rockers with the ball and cup push rods. Would these work better than the 340 non adjustable rocker arms with a higher lift hydraulic cam. What is the proper way to adjust them? Help!

Best bet is to get a pushrod length checker and measure for possibly new pushrods if the ones you have do not set up right.

Ideal settings are with the recomended lash of the cam manufacture and less than 2 threads of the adjuster showing.
Now you see where I recomend the P-rod checker for best length to get pushrods.

Upon having the correct lenght push rod installed - when the lifter of the valve you are adjusting is on its base circle, turn the adjusting screw until you feel a very slight drag on the pushrod as you rotate it . One complete rotation of the adjusting screw = .040" so once you have a slight drag on the pushrod as you rotate it (this being zero) then pre-load .030 - 0.040" .
Do each one and your good to go. Double check jam nuts for tightness for insurance sake.

Old school here..........60-70's

Adjust for zero slack on the bottom of the lobe, then tighten 1/4 turn down. Start and re-adjust if necessary. The reason we did this was just in case we float the valves. With only 1/4 turn down, the lifter can't inflate far and less possibility of valve - piston damage.

But then everyone else here isn't as stupid as I and never float valves.

Has anyone had a problem with lifters sticking on a 400 big block I have had it happen a few times and I'm not that familiar with this type set up it has the same rocker arm set up as 383 out of a charger (at least that's the place I found part to fit ) the ball and socket type and I just pulled passenger side out and 2 lifters were stuck when I took adjusters loose the last time it bent 1 push rod and broke another I am replacing all but not sure if that's going to fix it any help would be appreciated
